OMG THIS IS EXCITING
i really liked being at su. if you have any qs about the campus and all that, please let me know. the dean of the law school, kellye testy, was my boss for a couple years, too, and i loved working for her. i was a bit of a different person then than i am now, so i don't know how my rxns to the school would change if i was around it now, but i can def talk with you about campus life and all that business.
i'm also planning on doing an ma program there in a couple years.
what're you teaching there? what do you want to know about the nw?

hi heath
i'm really excited about su. it seems like a very progressive place, esp the law school, which is rare for law schools. there seems to be more interdisciplinary work going on in the law school than the usual too. the dean is amazing. i'll be teaching administrative law, poverty law and seminars about my research.
it would be amazing if you moved there when i am there. it seems like a good city for trans things. i'm interested to hear anything about the nw--best things to do in nature, adventures that must be taken, important institutions to investigate, histories, books, anything.

Re: hi heath
i'm glad you're excited about it! it definitely has it's highs and lows. but it's completely breathtakingly beautiful, and there are some pretty incredible things happening there - the vera project, CARA (communities against rape and abuse), home alive, and the afsc's program for young queers to name a few. and the ferry system is the best ever, and the food. omg, dean. the food. it's so good. spend all the time you can on the olympic peninsula, and tiger mountain is a good day hike (it's in the cascades). there are hot springs in the olympics to adventure to. make sure that you get east of the cascades, because, even though it can be scary and conservative, it's also completely gorgeous. washington is the most geographically diverse state, and there is so much to see.
if you're a twin peaks person, roslyn, wa, is where it was filmed, and you should go visit.
i can tell you tons about brunch, where to find coffee, where to find different kinds of thai, chinese, pho, etc. do you know where you want to live? there are a ton of options right around su, if you want to be in walking distance. the bus system isn't the most stellar, but it doesn't completely fail, either.
i'm starting to get back into reading about seattle, so i'll let you know if i find anything.
the plan is to be at su for this ma in psych program in 2009. fingers crossed! a bunch of stuff to do before then. it would be so great to be there while you're there, it's true.
e-mail me anytime to talk more about seatown stuff. seattle's a great city. i criticize it so much, but i do love it. a lot.
(oh, also, so you're not surprised: it's RIDICULOUSLY expensive there. like, i wasn't really that surprised about how expensive things were in ny when i moved there. my friend was recently there and saw studios listed for rent for $3000 in some places. RIDICULOUS. obviously not everything is like that, but it can definitely catch people off guard. you can have a house, or an apt in a house, with a garden, though, in most parts of the city, and that is incredible.)
also. if you live anywhere near school, you'll be walking distance to downtown, which means you can walk to the market for fresh flowers and vegetables every day if you wanted.

I know nothing whatsoever about Seattle (though it always seemed like a cool place), I just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Congrats! You know my parents met at Seattle University, so it's almost like you're entering my mother's womb. Sort of. Although that's pretty gross. And my brother, who I just adore, is a Seattle U alum. Go Jesuits! I was in seattle for a library conference last year and only saw mount rainier once. I look forward to seeing it again with you!
